What are Dust Mites?
Dust mites are tiny bugs that live in your home. They measure about 1/100 th of an inch in length. Dust mites feed off pet and human dander (dust), and their waste is a major cause of allergies and asthma.
In modern homes, it survives by digesting discarded skin scales and is found in areas of our homes that offer the right conditions. The common House Dust Mite survives in dark, damp, warm and poorly ventilated areas and consequently thrives in mattresses, pillows, sofas, soft toy and thick carpets. These conditions can be heightened by modern houses with double-glazing, central heating and coupled with poor ventilation
The cleanliness of the home or the presence of animals has nothing to do with the number of mites in a home. Their population is determined by the humidity of the home, the temperature of the home, and the amount of fabric or upholstery in the home. They do not survive on vinyl or hardwood floors but are everywhere that dust accumulates.
The dust mite population increases very rapidly. Each egg-laying female can increase the population by 25 to 30 mites every three weeks. Also each mite produces between 10 and 20 waste pellets each day.
However, the dust mites themselves are not allergenic, but the proteins they produce are. It is the protein DER p1 in the fecal products and disintegrating body parts that cause the most problem.
A gram of house dust (approximately half of a teaspoon) contains as many as 1,000 dust mites. That same gram of dust can hold 250,000 of their fecal pellets. A dust mite will produce 20 fecal pellets per day, that is 200 times its own body weight in feces during its short lifetime. With millions of dust mites living in one bed this means there are vast amounts of droppings there.
We don't need to destroy all these Dust Mites but we must control the waste pellets of the dust mites. To ensure the healthy living environment, the only way out is to engage the most effective method by using Mr McKenic® The Germ Killer.
